By now you are all aware of the fast approaching UFI Open Seminar in Asia, just  ten short days away.  One popular session in past Open Forums has been the panel discussions.

Supawan Terrarat, Director, Exhibitions Department, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau will sit on a panel along with Mike Williams, a consultant for the Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau and Walter Yeh, Executive Vice President, Taipei World Trade Center. The three will be discussing the timely topic, “Government Support for Exhibitions: How to deliver value.”

I asked Supawan a few questions in advance to give you a flavor of what’s in store for you at the Open Seminar.

Barry: What support is reasonable for the exhibition industry to expect from governments?

Supawan: There are many areas where governments are well positioned to assist the exhibition industry.  Some of the key areas include supporting activities such as Bidding, Marketing, Buyers campaigns, Trade missions, Market intelligence, linkages with the public and private sectors and access to consultants.

Barry: Which government initiatives in your country are the most popular?

Supawan: The most popular are those that promote investment in shows in Thailand. Four key initiatives are:

1.      A marketing communication campaign to give the business world  confidence about investments in shows in Thailand,

2.      Access to the governments network that provides linkages to all levels of government and private sectors

3.      One stop services as consultant or partner for the success of the show.

4.      Fast Track at immigration.
